Born and raised in New York, Steven Feder began his career performing stand-up in numerous comedy clubs while studying acting under Bill Esper at the prestigious William Esper Studio. As a member of The Creative Actors Repertory Theater, he performed, directed, and produced numerous plays, including Savage In Limbo, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Danny And The Deep Blue Sea, and Speed The Plow. He transitioned from theater to film by producing and co-writing The Big Gig. The film won three International Grand Prize Awards, the Nicholson Award, and the coveted Audience Award at The Hamptons International Film Festival. Next, Steven wrote, produced, and directed the Dramatic Feature Jury Prize-winning film The Cottonwood, starring Pruitt Taylor Vince, Gia Carides, Stacy Edwards, Cynthia Nixon, Michael Wright, Tony Sirico, and Missi Pyle, featured on Showtime's Best of Independent Film Directors Cut Series. Next, he wrote, directed, and produced the romantic comedy It Had To Be You, starring Natasha Henstridge, Michael Vartan, Michael Rispoli, and Olivia d’Abo, with music by Academy Award-winning composer Luis Bacalov and Orchestra di Roma.
Steven collaborated with Academy Award winners Barry Levinson and Al Pacino on his scripted crime thriller Charlie Irish for Warner Bros. and Golden Globe winners James Gandolfini and Alec Baldwin on his scripted comedy/drama With A Bullet, which was based on the music industry in 1977. He recently adapted Jack London’s The Game as an anthology series for producer Gunther Fishgold and the crime series pilot Trust.
He is developing The Ropes, a scripted series with producer Brendan Bragg of Haven Entertainment based on Steven's own experience in the gritty world of professional boxing. He is adapting Steven King’s short story, All That You Love Will Be Carried Away, for producer Jose del Carmen Martinez. Steven is set to direct his upcoming crime-thriller, Under The Influence,.
Steven recently completed the feature A Brooklyn Love Story, which he wrote and directed for producers Jeff Mazzola, John Scaccia, and Morris Levy, distributed by Quiver, premiering on Amazon, starring Michael Rispoli, Dan Grimaldi, Vincent Pastore, Joseph D’Onofrio, Katie McCarty, Michael Morano, and Christopher Ryan.
His recent producing credits include Sisterhood, Inc for Fox/Hallmark, starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Daniella Monet, and Steve Schirippa.
Next, Steven will direct the music-filled comedy romance Sing to Me, starring Voice winner and American Idol runner-up Allesandra Guercio; the feature-length The Game, based on the Jack London novel; and Gangster, a true-life series based on the story of Johnny “Bird” Coiro Jr., a second-generation mobster in the Columbo crime family.
Steven has been a director, screenwriter, script doctor, ghostwriter, and author for over two decades. He has written on dozens of films, directed music videos, and produced documentaries, including The Promoter, which he produced with Peter Berg for HBO on the life of legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum.
Steven’s many interests include a seventeen-year association in professional boxing. He has managed three world champions and traveled the world with close friend Hall of Fame, seven-time trainer of the year, Freddie Roach of Wild Card Boxing. Steven appears as himself in the Peter Berg-directed Emmy Award-winning HBO doc-series On Freddie Roach and State of Play episode "A Fighting Chance."
