Born and raised in New York, Steven Feder began his career performing stand-up in numerous comedy clubs while studying acting under Bill Esper at the prestigious William Esper Studio. As a member of The Creative Actors Repertory Theater, he performed, directed, and produced numerous plays, including Savage in Limbo, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Danny And The Deep Blue Sea, and Speed-the-Plow. He transitioned from theater to film by producing and co-writing The Big Gig. The film won three International Grand Prize Awards, including the Nicholson Award and the coveted Audience Award at The Hamptons International Film Festival.
Steven wrote, produced, and directed the Dramatic Feature Jury Prize-winning film The Cottonwood, starring Pruitt Taylor Vince, Gia Carides, Stacy Edwards, Cynthia Nixon, Michael Wright, Tony Sirico, and Missi Pyle, featured on Showtime's Best of Independent Film Directors' Cut Series.
Steven wrote, directed, and produced the romantic comedy It Had To Be You, starring Natasha Henstridge, Michael Vartan, Michael Rispoli, and Olivia d’Abo, with music by Academy Award-winning composer Luis Bacalov and Orchestra di Roma.
He recently adapted Jack London’s The Game and A Piece of Steak for a feature, to be directed by him, for producer Gunther Fishgold.
His script for the thriller TV series TRUST is in development.
He is developing The Ropes, a scripted series with producer Brendan Bragg of Haven Entertainment, based on Steven's own experience in the gritty world of professional boxing.
Steven recently completed the feature A Brooklyn Love Story, which he wrote and directed, distributed by Quiver, starring Michael Rispoli, Dan Grimaldi, Vincent Pastore, Joseph D’Onofrio, Katie McCarty, Michael Morano, and Christopher Ryan. The film was nominated for Film Threat's Best Indie Romance.
His recent producing credits include Sisterhood, Inc for Fox/Hallmark, starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Daniella Monet, and Steve Schirripa.
Casting has begun on Steven's crime thriller, Under the Influence, which he will direct.
Steven scripted the music-filled comedy romance Sing to Me, starring Voice winner and American Idol runner-up Alessandra Guercio, which is being packaged.
Steven is scripting Gangster, based on the true story of Johnny “Bird” Coiro Jr., a second-generation mobster in the Columbo crime family who traveled the globe pulling scores. A Catch Me if You Can-like mob adventure story.
Steven just wrote and directed the documentary The Wonder of It All, filmed in Providence, Rhode Island, about legendary boxing promoter Jimmy Burchfield and the history of organized crime on Federal Hill, due out in winter 2026.
Steven is directing and producing The Final Fight, a short film based on a New York Times cover story, for producer TJ Stein. The story has gained national attention for the subject matter of elder abuse.
Steven is attached to write and direct The Prince of East Harlem, a crime thriller based on Nick Rondi's novel The Nappers, for producers Kevin Matusow and Cary Alex.
Steven has been a director, screenwriter, script doctor, ghostwriter, and author for three decades. He has written on dozens of films, directed features, music videos, commericals and documentaries, including The Promoter, which he produced with Peter Berg for HBO, about the life of legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum.
Steven’s many interests include a nineteen-year association with professional boxing. He has managed three world champions and traveled the world with his close friend, Hall of Fame seven-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach, of Wild Card Boxing. Steven appears as himself in the Peter Berg-directed Emmy Award-winning HBO doc-series On Freddie Roach and the State of Play episode "A Fighting Chance."
Steven often works on the East Coast, but resides in Los Angeles, CA.
